Wayne Ng ABNA - Biobanking: Shaping the Future Together

Wayne Ng

Wayne is the General Manager for the Victorian Cancer Biobank (VCB) consortium where he oversees the unique collaborative state-wide biobanking infrastructure that supports biomedical research and innovation. Under his leadership, the VCB has successfully undergone a transition into new governance and subsequently prepared a new business plan that resulted in nearly $7 million funding provided by the Victorian Government to support this program. Furthermore, the VCB was nominated as a finalist in the Melbourne Awards 2021 recognising its contributions towards knowledge and innovation to the city. Nationally, he provides leadership in the Australian Donation and Transplantation Biobank as a member of the Steering Committee as well as the Australasian Biospecimen Network Association as a member of the management committee. At the International level, he is the Indo-Pacific Rim Regional Ambassador for International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER), with aims primarily to connect biobanking initiatives in the region to the largest biobanking forum worldwide. Wayne has a strong interest in improving the coordination of biobanking across Australia by providing open-access biospecimens, which will play a significant role in creating a strong biomedical and innovation ecosystem in Australia. Prior to joining the VCB, he was the Assistant Manager at the CONCERT Biobank in Sydney. He is also a molecular biologist by profession with a PhD in cancer molecular pathology from Western Sydney University. Wayne is a member of the 2022 ABNA Management Committee.
